Our Wonderful Uganda Youth Volunteers
May 15, 2010
Last night at 3am I got a phone call from Polycarp, one of our wonderful Uganda youth volunteers. He said they are really struggling right now and asked when Burim or I would be coming. I told him that Burim would definitely come in September. I could tell he was disappointed that they would have to wait that long, but he just said how glad he was that Burim would definitely be coming.
I feel really bad that we haven’t been able to send Burim to Uganda since last summer. The teen volunteers are working so hard, and want to do so much more, but they are severely limited when Burim isn’t there. When they are on their own, they can only teach in Gulu.
We’re so poor right now. We’ve got to get Burim back over there this fall.
Here is my favorite picture of them—working with the children of the Paboo IDP Camp last summer. Because of the distance, they can only go to the camp when Burim is there.
Sacrifice. that’s the word that comes to my mind when I think of our youth volunteers.I’m so proud of them for working so hard, even when the conditions are so difficult and they feel alone. I love them so much.
